What we do

PDAO concentrates on three major types of work: improving food security for poverty reduction and sustainable development in Cambodia and improving local governance and participation of citizen in community development activities and promoting the combat against climate change through adaptation and mitigation acts.

PDAO approaches to capacity building and development of rural community in terms of governance, management and technical skills, practical knowledge transfers and exchanges of best practices and lessons learnt. Most of our activities closely relates to rural community and grass-root level with the intentions that people are strong enough to fight against poverty, actively participate in development activities, if not national level but within their own community, and having enough capability to sustain their livelihood and use their rights.

We have a long history of success within five executive years in both supporting participatory development and community based organization (CBOs) at grass-root level as well as at provincial level. Until now, we have solid foundation in three difference schemes, including local governance through Decentralization and De-concentration (D&D), Food Security and Integrated Rural Development, and Service Research and Consultancy (SRNC). We have implemented several projects, in terms of partnership, in Takeo. We have provided technical and knowledge-based supports to commune councillors in 28 communes in Takeo and Kampot through Local Administration and Reform (LAAR), funded by USAID through Pact Cambodia and Supporting the Citizen Engagement with Local Government in Takeo and Kampot province (SCELG) through The Asia Foundation. We have implemented several food security projects, including Food Security and Integrated Agriculture, supported by HEKS Swiss-InterChurch through HEKS Cambodia Program, Reduction in Maternal Mortality Project (RMMP): Community Mobilizing Activity through Options Cambodia, and Value-Based Holistic Community Development (VBHCD) funded by Heifer Cambodia .  We are currently continuing success through the implementation of two major projects. Those projects are Women Empowerment Holistic Community Development (WEHCD) through Heifer Cambodia and Improving the Food Security of Farming Families affected by the Volatile Food Prices under EU Food Facility Project through FAO Cambodia. Recently, PDAO has started a new 5 years project implementation granted by ADB in Second Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project (RWSSP-2) in 6 province around the Great Lake, including Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey. The main objective is to provide safe water facilities and sanitation improvement for rural families within the target provinces.

Not only receiving grants from our partners, we are also building our concrete human resources for seeking financial sustainability through service providing activities. Until now, we have provided value added services through on-demand training courses and consultancy activities to Save Cambodian Wildlife (SCW), Mlup Baitong, CEDAC, IRD and other national and international institutions throughout Cambodia.

Furthermore, establishment and maintenance good relation and close work with Government’s institutions are the core strategy ensuring that our projects are implementing smoothly. We are now in partnerships with Provincial Development Committee of Takeo Province, Provincial Department of Agriculture (PDA) Takeo, Provincial Department of Women Affair (PDoWA) Takeo, Provincial Department of Water Resource and Meteorology (PDoWRAM) Takeo, Fishery Administration Cantonment (FiAC) Takeo. Plus, we are also in good relation with all district and commune administrations in Takeo. Nonetherless, we are also working closely with Ministry of Rural Development, as well as Privicial Department of Rural Development in Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat and Kampong Chhnang.

Our achievement, strong development strategy and administration and financial management policy, PDAO has been awarded, in February 2010, a certificate of compliance with all standards in the Code of Ethical Principles, meeting minimal standards for NGOs in Cambodia, under NGO Good Practice Project.
